Senator Collins' Office Vandalized in Maine; Democratic Challenger Issues Condemnation
Senator Susan Collins' Maine office was vandalized, drawing a strong response from her and a condemnation from Democratic challenger Troy Jackson.

Senator Susan Collins' constituent office in Biddeford, Maine, was subjected to vandalism on Monday, featuring a vulgar message. In response, Senator Collins, a Republican, declared she would not be "intimidated" by the act. Her Democratic challenger, Troy Jackson, broke his silence later that evening to denounce the "vandalism and intimidation" as "wrong."
High-Stakes Senate Race in Maine
Senator Collins is seeking re-election for a sixth six-year term representing Maine, a state often considered politically leaning blue. She faces a highly competitive contest against Jackson, the former president of the Maine Senate. This particular race is considered crucial for Democrats aiming to regain control of the Senate majority from Republicans in the upcoming autumn elections.
Theriault commented on Jackson's initial silence, stating confidence that "Sen. Collins herself would very quickly condemn this if the shoe was on the other foot." Theriault also questioned whether Maine Democrats faced an "identity problem."
We hope the prosecution is quick and smooth. Our political environment should not tolerate this volatile and disgusting behavior.
Theriault added, emphasizing the need for swift legal action and condemning such conduct in the political sphere.
Context of the Vandalism
The Biddeford office of Senator Collins is situated just a few blocks from where a fatal shooting involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents occurred in July. Following that incident, protesters had marched to the senator's office to demonstrate against her continued support for ICE funding.
Throughout her campaign, Senator Collins, known as a moderate Republican who has occasionally diverged from President Donald Trump's stances, has attracted considerable attention from both sides of the political spectrum.
This summer, she was commended for casting her 10,000th consecutive Senate vote. However, she has also drawn criticism from both Republican and Democratic factions. Collins has publicly criticized Trump's tariff policies directed at Canada and has dissented on certain high-profile administration appointments. Democrats, meanwhile, have persistently targeted her over her 2018 vote to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, particularly given his subsequent role in the Supreme Court majority that ultimately overturned Roe v. Wade.
